2nd North American Chevra Kadisha Conference
Las Vegas, Nevada June 6th - 8th, 2004
The Chevra Kadisha Conference offers a variety of thoughtful and thought-provoking topics and sessions, as well as knowledgeable speakers and workshop leaders, while not over-programming and over-stimulating you to the point of exhaustion!
Plenary sessions will cover The Challenge of Redefining the Role of Chevrah Kadisha in the 21st Century; The Jewish Afterlife; Building Kavod v’Nichum into our Communities and Jewish Communal Obligations in Death and Dying. Plenary speakers include Rabbis Brad Artson, Alfredo Borodowski, Felipe Goodman and David Zinner (who is not a rabbi).
There will be 25 workshops in 5 time slots. 8 of which will be repeated. Some sample workshops include:
Say Yes to Tahara: Training and Maintaining Your Chevra Kadisha.
The Emotions of Tahara: Discussing feelings and learning coping skills necessary to maintain good mental health.
Start Spreading the News: Educating the Community about Tahara.
In addition there will be three and ½ hours of hands-on Tahara demonstration sessions that will include preparation, supplies, health concerns, washing, purification, dressing, knot tying and casketing.
The Conference Committee has put a lot of thought into the Plenary Sessions and Workshops. We hope you will agree that this has been accomplished; only time will tell. We look forward to your evaluations and feedback following the conclusion of the conference and hope you have as positive an experience as we have in working to plan the conference.
